Obituary for Mary Thomas Waugh (Grogg)

Mary Thomas Waugh, 88, of 174 Homeland Addition Jane Lew passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020 in Genesis Healthcare Center in Glenville following an extended illness. She was born in Wolf Pen on Copley in Lewis County on December 23, 1931: daughter of the late Orval G. Grogg and Iva (Linger) Grogg. On June 2, 1951, she married Ezra “Jim” Waugh, who preceded her in death on December 6, 2018.

Mary is survived by three daughters: Marsha A. (Bob) Taylor of Weston, Linda (Rick) Kramm of Horner, and Stacy Waugh and husband John Ree of Morgantown, one son: David Waugh of Weston, 7 grandkids: Lisa Taylor Boysen, Bobby Taylor (Deceased), Erin Daugherty, Andy Taylor, Josh Kramm, Derek Kramm, Allison Ree and Ezra Ree, and 8 great grandkids: Taylor Boysen, Kristen Craig, Andrew Boysen, Jenna Waugh, Quentin Daugherty, Maia Daugherty, Timothy Daughterty, and Brex Taylor. She is also survived by 3 step great grandkids: Bo Craig, Melissa Marine and Mark DeCosta and 4 step great great grandkids. She is also survived by 2 sisters: Jean Bell of Clarksburg and Velma Shock of Weston, one brother: Robert G. Grogg of Charleston and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Waugh was a printer with the West Virginia Glass Specialty Company of Weston. Upon it’s closure, Mary became a school cook with the Lewis County Board of Education. She worked at Copley School, Jane Lew Elementary and Robert L. Bland Middle School, where she retired. Mary was a graduate of Weston High School with the class of 1950 and attended and was a member of the McWhorter United Methodist Church where she sang alto in their choir for many years.

Her passions in life were but not limited to: her love for God and her family. Mary loved children in general but spoiling her grand and great grandkids were at the top of her list. Mary had a wonderful zest for life and was known to leave smiles and sunshine wherever she went. Cooking was always a special treat for her and no one left her house hungry.
