Obituary for Lawrence Heater

Lawrence Heater, 92, of Roanoke passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 in his home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. He was born in Lewis County on January 27, 1928: son of the late Ernest Rye Heater and Vadie A. (Riffle) Heater. On August 11, 1950, he married the love of his life, Barbara Dell (Carpenter) Heater after 52 years, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Heater is survived by two daughters: Barbara Jean Heath and Patty Workman (companion Tim Myers) both of Roanoke, two sons: Jake Heater and Billy Heater both of Roanoke, 6 grandchildren: Mike Heath (wife Jeanette) and Jason Heath (wife Shelly) , Betsy Murphy (husband Charles), Gary Workman (wife Brenda), Amanda Heater Keller (husband Brandon) and Casey Heater Lough (husband William) and 12 great-grandchildren: Hunter and Brayden Heath, Marinna & Madison Heath, Savannah and Dakota Workman, Zack and Shelby Murphy, Jacob and Jada Heater and Emilie and Eva Lough and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife Barbara, Lawrence was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 5 sisters and one daughter-in-law: Ellen Louise Heater.

Mr. Heater was a retired from the WV Department of Highways. He was a member of the Jaycees and a Baptist by faith. Lawrence was the last member of his immediate family. Mr. Heater was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a private in the late 1940’s. He loved his cats and birds and he had a special hummingbird that was still looking in their window since he lost his beloved wife, Barbara. Mr. Heater was a giving man and would give you the shirt off his back. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 12 until 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the Hardman Family Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Adam Burkhammer officiating. Interment will follow services in the Mitchell Cemetery of Roanoke, WV. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the Lewis County Honor Guard.
