Obituary

Karl Tyne Staubly, 85, of Weston died Friday, July 31st, 2020 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following an extended illness. Karl was born in Washington D.C., on May 1st, 1935 to Ralph Franklin Staubly and Margaret Tyne Staubly who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Kurt Staubly and his brother Ronald Tyne Staubly.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Ann Staubly: his daughter Victoria Diane Staubly, and 5 grandchildren: Sadie Basem, Paige, Arden, Tessa, and Harrison Staubly. He is also survived by one sister: Linda Burke and one sister-in-law: Helen Staubly.

Karl was a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and he served in the U.S. Army for 3 and a half years. In his professional life he worked in various venues as a mental health worker and counselor in both Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.

Karl was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston where he served as secretary for the United Methodist Men’s Group for several years. He was also a member of the Lewis County Democratic Executive Committee. He was an active member of the Lewis County Habitat for Humanity and served as their President for several years. He helped to build several houses in Lewis County for local families.

I have to say that I don’t have many memories from when I’m younger, just impressions so I’m not able to tell you a specific moment with a Uncle Karl - what I can tell you is that he and my dad seemed to share this calm, kind energy about them that could make you feel just good about things. And my mom and I seem to think that he used to have a stash of candies - she says Tic Tacs - in his pocket in case of emergency. Dad’s emergency candy was Werthers. So I guess both of them were just sweet guys, with really nice smiles on the inside and out.
