Obituary

Iris Carol Crislip, 86, of Weston went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew surrounded by her family ending a noble fight for life following several health issues. She was born in Vadis, WV on September 14, 1933: daughter of the late O.W. Ireland and Lora (Alfred) Ireland. On December 24, 1950, she married Albert J. Crislip, who survives.

Carol is also survived by one daughter: Barbara Millhoff and husband Bob of Weston, one son: Larry D. Crislip and wife Barbara of Coden, AL, one grandson: Jeff Crislip and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crislip was preceded in death by one brother: James C. Ireland and two sisters: Agnes Potter and Euleta Jones, making her the last of her immediate family.

Mrs. Crislip was a housewife. She was a graduate of Weston High School. Earlier in life and before health issues made it difficult, Carol was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston. Her hobbies include sewing, knitting, crocheting and working puzzles.

Carol never let her health issues affect her outlook on life and was proud of the life she led. Her family remembers her great stories for any situation. Their family visits, Thanksgivings and especially Christmas were special. They remember being spoiled by her love.

Family and friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman Family Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Ken Miller officiating. Interment will follow services in the Carder Cemetery of Vadis, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Carol may be expressed at info@hardmanfamilyfuneralhome.com.

I was Carol's only grandson. Ever since I was a young boy, we had a special connection. Going to visit grandma over the summer, Thanksgiving and especially Christmas was something I always looked forward to. No matter what we did together, I loved it. I likely did things I wasn't supposed to, but Grandma never stopped me. Because at Grandma's house there were very few rules and I never had to worry about anything. Being with grandma was the true epitome of childhood. She let me be me and enjoyed every minute together. She always made sure I had the best time with her and she loved watching me grow up with a smile on my face. The older I got, the visits became less frequent, but the excitement remained the same.
She lived a simple life. It didn’t take much to make her happy—a phone call, a card or a visit was all it took. Her family were the most important people in the world to her. She lived to make their lives better. She was proud of us all. To know that she felt that way should make us all happy. We can never forget that there is a part of her in each of us, something that she gave and asked nothing for in return.
What we inherited from her cannot be damaged, destroyed or lost. It is permanent, and it keeps her from becoming just a wonderful memory. It allows her in so many ways to remain just as alive as always—alive through us. Undoubtedly, there will be times in our lives, when situations arise, where we’ll want to talk to her, be with her or ask her for advice. When those times come, hopefully, we can look to each other and find that part of her that she gave to each of us.
Each time I would call, she enthusiastically answered the phone the same way, "WELL HELLO THERE JEFFREY". These words in her voice will remain with me for the rest of my life. So, for your wisdom, humor, strength, compassion, understanding and especially love; thank you, Grandma. I love you!
