Obituary for Barbara Ann Smith (Vineyard)
Barbara Ann (Vineyard) Smith, 84, of Weston passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 in United Hospital Center of Bridgeport, WV following an unexpected illness. She was born in Weston on December 20, 1935: daughter of the late Roy Lee Vineyard and Virginia Marie (Goldsmith) Vineyard. On April 19, 1954, she married Aubrey B. Smith, who preceded her in death on November 8, 2008.
Barbara is survived by three children: Martina Diane Norman-Smith of Wheeling, WV, Gregory Allen Smith of Glenville and Mark Douglas Smith of Winchester, VA, 8 grandchildren: Sarah Smith, Jordan Belton, Rachell, Luke and Braelyn Smith and Byron, Matthew and Mitchell Norman and two great-grandchildren: Mya Aubree Norman-Chambers and Ronan Belton. She is also survived by one niece: Nancy Sears. In addition to her parents and husband, Aubrey, Barbara was preceded in death by two sisters: Carol Sue Vineyard and Patricia Ann Vineyard.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. Never without words of wisdom and often said,”I’ve been raising kids all my life.” She graduated from Weston High School with the “class of 1954.” She was a member of St Matthew United Methodist Church of Weston. Mrs. Smith was a part of many local businesses in Lewis County over the years.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed working puzzles. Barbara was a charter member of the Women of the Moose. She was active in youth organizations with her children. She was a wonderful seamstress. Barbara loved to entertain and had many 4th of July parties over the years. Her children said that her home was open to all her children’s friends and her neighbors. Barbara was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Saturday, May 9, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A private family service will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Hardman Family Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Bruce Mac Beth officiating.
